Café, Boulange, Pizza

Presidio Heights' Laurel Village on California Street now has a café tasty enough for grandma and low-key enough to bring the kids. Rigolo is a French bakery that serves delicious breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner.

Rigolo is the latest addition to the family of Bay Bread successes created by baker- restauranteur Pascal Rigo prepares French classics such as Croque Madame (brioche open faced with prosciutto, gruyere cheese, béchamel and a fried egg for $6.95) and onion soup.

Breakfast & Brunch

Served from 8am-3pm, Rigolo offers "real" French toast with fresh fruit and real maple syrup ($6.95), a waffle with sauteed berries and sweet ricotta cheese ($5.95), granola with yogurt and fruit ($4.95), a variety of quiches ($4.25), meat, veggie or cheese omelettes ($7.95) and a variety of delicious French pastries made daily.

Espresso drinks are served in large French yellow cups. A single latte costs $2.25; a double will run you $2.80.

Lunch and Dinner

Beer and wine are available with lunch and Dinner. Lunch items include seven different Rigolo Baker's pizzas (such as smoked salmon and creme fraiche, and caramelized onion with fontina and truffle oil). Sandwiches and homemade pasta are also made fresh, daily. Entrees run $6.95-$11.95; desserts, $4.95.

Rigolo offers not only a kid's menu, they have created a space in the back of the café where kids can hang out, while mom and dad have an "adult" conversation.

The kids menu includes: a cheese pizza, or macaroni and cheese for $3.95 or a hamburger for $4.95.

You are invited to order your food and then take it to one of the dozen tables inside or one of the three tables outside on the California Street side of the cafe. Or you can have them package it up to go and take it home. This is also a great place to come if you are packing a picnic!
