San Francisco's Historic Movie Palace
The Castro Theatre, designated a Registered Landmark in 1977, is considered one of the finest examples of a 1920s movie palace in San Francisco, and one of the best preserved of its type in the nation.
In July 1977 the Castro Theatre became the 100th edifice to receive the protection and prestige of landmark status.
The theatre shows classic films that rotate nearly nightly as well as mini festivals that focus on a country, director or movie star.
It is one of the best places to see a movie in the City.
