Shelley is a former business / marketing student at the University of Colorado.

In 1979, pageant representatives from the Miss Colorado organization selected Ms. Marks, along with a number of other KKG sorority sisters, to compete in order to represent their state. She won the 1980 competition and two weeks later went on to the Miss USA Pageant.

The privilege of the Miss Colorado crown awarded her the opportunity to learn about other cultures, to find empathy in so many, to inspire others to believe in themselves, and to demonstrate humanity through her own personal challenges in life.

Her experience also taught her endurance.

Shelley Marks currently resides in Scottsdale Arizona with her two children, her Black Lab, Aspen and her horse named Maui.
