Antony Thier, founder of HealThier Fitness, is a certified personal trainer (AFAA), a professional ski instructor, as well as a bike (USA Cycling), triathlon and pre and post natal coach.
He is also a Master Potter, an organic farmer with over six years experience, a professional cook, and an ordained Zen Buddhist monk.
Previously, Antony was a professional firefighter for the US Forest Service, as well as a volunteer for the Gilpin County Fire Department in Black Hawk, Colorado.
Antony began his fitness career as an athlete. While bike and ski racing at the University of Colorado in 1988, he began training with the US Freestyle team as a pre season coach.
“Being an athlete in such a competitive environment, made me reevaluate the need for a more complete training regimen than just strength training. The program we developed for the free style team took qualities from weight training, Yoga, Aikido and distance endurance events to make for a more well rounded, athletic body and attitude.
My goal for my clients is to enable them to perform any task they can imagine, in a strong, dependable and injury free body.”
Antony currently trains clients in San Francisco and Mill Valley, California, where he develops client specific programs to help them reach their goal.
In addition to working in a gym environment, Antony trains with clients outdoors in event specific fields of biking, running, skiing and swimming.
Nutrition is also a significant part of Antony’s fitness programs.
His background in cooking includes landmark vegetarian restaurant, such as Greens at Fort Mason in San Francisco, and Valhalla in Sausalito, California. Antony bases his nutritional programs on a whole food model which includes a living foods diet.
“I firmly believe from a life time of study and experimentation with different diets, that the old adage, “you are what you eat”, essentially covers the basic truths of diet.
Whether you are working towards weight loss, race training or birthing a child, eating the right food, the right amount of food, at the right time, is essential in achieving your health goals.”
In addition to running HealThier Fitness, Antony has offered to take on a new, youth-focused adventure as Director of The Thrive House of San Francisco.
The Thrive House offers life skills to kids who live in challenging urban environments.
As Director of The Thrive House, Antony organizes the multi-use schedules of the numerous organizations which will be invited to utilize the house. He will create and administer programming to fit the needs of The Thrive House participants. And he coordinates scheduling of the generous volunteers who help make The Thrive House thrive!
